Fall Preview: One Blazer, Three Ways
Have to say: I really enjoy a truly excellent blazer. Always have.
It’s just so versatile.
For this post, I partnered with The Limited to style a key Fall piece three different ways: for Date Night, for an afternoon of shopping in the city, and for Sunday evening drinks with friends…and to show how one classic investment piece really can take you everywhere you want to go all...

Conde Nast And Changes
In 2007, I moved back to NYC from Los Angeles to be with my new fiancé, but also to start a new career. I had published a couple of articles (one a cover article in a national teen magazine) and had graduated from a good school, and so I thought hey, I’ll just stroll into the Time, Inc (or wherever) offices and be handed a job, and presto: upward trajectory, corner office, et cetera.

What's By My Bed?
My nighttime routine is a pretty simple one: wash face, brush teeth, remove eye makeup, maybe stretch a bit, and then get between the sheets with a magazine and try to keep my eyes pried open so I can get caught up on the latest goings-on with Katie Holmes (the drama!).
Here are the things you’ll always find on or in my bedside table:
1. A vintage jewelry dish for storing my wear-everyday...

Is It Ever OK To Wear Jeans To An Interview?
Q. Jordan, I’m really hoping you can help me.
I have a second-round interview on Wednesday for a job that I really, really want.
Before my last interview, the owner emailed me and said, “FYI, we’re VERY casual here.” I came straight from work at my stuffy corporate job, so I was wearing a jacket, black top and tan dress pants. His comment to me, in a joking way, was,...

Peach, Avocado & Arugula: Not Your Average Side...
I make this salad all the time (here, it’s served with steak for my backyard dinner with Mom last weekend)…but only during the summer, because if your peaches are not spectacular it goes from incredible to yick (biting into a mealy peach - or a mealy orange, for that matter - gives me the butterfly-shudders).
Just dress up some cubed peach, diced avocado and arugula with a little...

My Kind Of Office
My office is kind of (OK, very) weird. And very me.
I love it.
Wanna see?!?!
The leopard carpet was installed by the original owners (who were obviously some seriously kindred spirits); I just had it deep-cleaned prior to our move-in.
And those walls are kind of crazy, no? The plan is to change them to a pale mint green one of these days, but for now, they’re kind of growing on me....

New Use For An Old Thing: Tie-Back As Jewelry Rack
One of our brand-new (but not new enough that it fell within the 30-day exchange period) Urban Outfitters curtain tie-backs broke.
Not a problem, though, because guess what a fancy tie-back is also perfect for?
Jewelry storage. (It’s hung over my office closet door frame.)

Rainbow Potato Salad & Rainbow Potato Hash
This potato salad is slightly more traditional than my Tangy Potato-Avocado Salad, but still has a little zing to it courtesy of the white vinegar and dill pickle, and I love that the leftovers can easily find their way into the next morning’s breakfast.
Note: these mini “rainbow” potatoes can be a little pricey, so I generally only go for them when I spot them on sale (these...

American Express Back To School Program
I’ve been an Amex devotee for over a decade now: they’re the very first credit card I ever got, and I’ve stuck with them since. Partially because of the Membership Rewards, but mostly because of their truly stellar Purchase Protection program, which covers your purchases from accidental damage or theft for up to 90 days. I once had my card stolen in a club (during my...

Three Things
1. While coming home from CostCo on Friday, I made an improvisational detour to avoid traffic and managed to actually arrive at my front door with only a single stop to consult my phone. Progress!

Weekend Snapshots
In a crazy turn of events, we spent most of this weekend fixing up the house.
(Starting to notice a pattern here?)
It’s fun, actually. I’m a little confused as to why I haven’t grown enormous arm muscles yet, but maybe I still need to lift another rug or two.
This is Kendrick’s studio (he gets the garage all to his lonesome) mid-makeover.
So far, we’ve removed...

Stovetop Grilling: Tips And Recipes
Q. Hi Jordan,
I am moving into an apartment that does not have a balcony or a gas stove - this building is electric only. I am best at cooking meat on a grill outdoors, but I won’t have one at this place. I’m wondering what you did living in your (former!) apartment.
Are stove-top griddles any good? Any ideas?
Thanks for your help. Most importantly, congrats on the new home!!!

Totally agree.
I spent last night half-watching Breaking Bad and half-obsessing over the living room and what I want to do to make it feel more “us”. DIY "Depression Glass"
What’s Depression Glass? It’s that gorgeous colored glassware that you find all over antique stores and flea markets; it’s called “Depression Glass” because it was distributed for free during the Great Depression (brands included pieces with things like boxes of food as an incentive to purchase).
I love the stuff, but it can get pricey…
So I thought I’d...

How-To: Smudging Ceremony
This is me, performing a smudging ceremony on Saturday morning in between episodes of Dora The Explorer, which I now love almost as much as Yo Gabba Gabba. Almost.
A smudging ceremony, in a nutshell, is a way to cleanse a space of negativity; it traditionally symbolizes new beginnings and is done when a house is in need of a “spiritual cleansing”…so, say, when you move into a...

Weekend Snapshots
So our town, in a bid to make me love it even more than I thought possible, does this thing called “Third Fridays”, where on the third Friday of every month they more or less shut down Main Street and have things like live music, free food and wine samples, and capoeira demonstrations. And all the restaurants and shops stay open late, so it’s basically a town-wide street party....

Weekend Breezy
Not gonna lie: I’m dressing a little differently at the moment.
Not in a style-revolution way…it’s more of a “me, with an extra dash of laziness” look.

Blue Monster Burgers
When I lived in LA, I used to make these all the time.
I grilled - or at least had my dad or my friend Daniel grill - pretty much every night during the years I was living in Sherman Oaks, but after awhile I realized that the pre-made blue cheese patties that I kept buying from Whole Foods just because they were so delicious could easily be duplicated at home for a fraction of the price.
